The CP4 – Cathodic Protection Specialist is the most advanced cathodic protection certification offered by AMPP. It is intended for professionals with extensive experience and advanced technical knowledge in the design, installation, and management of cathodic protection (CP) systems.
Course Content
- Design, Factors, Calculations, Properties, and Materials
- Transmission and Other Pipelines
- Marine and Offshore Applications
- Tanks and Well Casings
- Water Tanks, Surface Condensers, and Thickeners
- Steel Reinforcement in Concrete
The course and certification program cover the following:
Theory & Analysis
- Fundamental and advanced principles of cathodic protection
- CP design principles for different structures (pipelines, tanks, onshore/offshore facilities)
- Factors affecting CP design (environment, materials, coatings)
- Consolidated design calculations (e.g. attenuation calculations)
Practical Training & Applications
- Practical design examples
- Evaluation of cathodic protection systems
- Data analysis and troubleshooting
- International standards and best practices
Training Format
The training consists mainly of lectures, classroom discussions, and hands-on calculation exercises applied to various structures (e.g. pipelines, tanks, offshore installations).
The CP4 Specialist training has a duration of 5 days, from 08:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and is conducted in English.
Prerequisites
To obtain the CP4 certification, candidates must meet the requirements for work experience, education, successful examination, and submit a formal application according to one of the following options:
Option 1
- Bachelor’s degree in physical sciences or engineering
and - 6 years of documented experience in advanced cathodic protection, including 4 years in responsible charge
Option 2
- 2 years of post-secondary education in a technical/scientific field
and - 12 years of experience in advanced cathodic protection, including 4 years in responsible charge
Option 3 (Advanced Track)
- Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in physical or engineering sciences
and - Registration as Engineer-in-Training (or equivalent) or professional engineering license
and - 4 years of experience in advanced cathodic protection with 4 years in responsible charge
Note: Completion of lower-level certifications (CP1 / CP2 / CP3) is not required in order to obtain CP4 certification.
Examinations & Certification
For AMPP CP4 certification:
Examinations
